Movie Review:

“Drive- Away Dolls” is directed by Ethan Coen, and it is a new road trip comedy with a mix of a crime thriller with a classic Coen brothers’ style that is witty, quirky, and dark. The best thing in the movie is the chemistry between its two leads Geraldine Viswanthan (Marian) and Margaret Qualley (Jamie) who have an odd couple type of relationship that lights up the screen. Marian is an uptight, intense, and edgy young women that doesn’t enjoy life. Her best friend Jamie is the opposite; fun, high energy and loves life. Beanie Feldstein plays Sukie Jamie’s ex-girlfriend and a cop who steals the show with her performance. Colman Domingo plays the main villain and gangster named Chief -- he is a typical Coen brothers’ character that has snappy dialogue and comedic scenes. This movie is stacked with a great cast like Matt Damon and Pedro Pascal but are wasted with nothing to do but have small cameos. My biggest issues with this movie are that it has difficulty finding its identity -- a road trip comedy or a crime thriller -- it felt off. Also, the movie is 84 minutes long and it seemed too short with a resolution that has an anticlimactic ending. This was one of my most anticipated films that came out this year, but it was disappointing.  I am giving “Drive-Away Dolls” a 3.5/5 stars.
