Easter Sunday

Synopsis: A man returns home to celebrate Easter with his riotous, bickering, eating, drinking, laughing, loving family.

Movie Review:

“Easter Sunday” is directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, and it is a family comedy. This movie should be funny since it stars one of the biggest stand-up comics right now, but it is silly, unfunny, and cringeworthy to watch. The only good thing in this movie is Jo Koy who plays Joe Valencia a struggling actor and standup comic. The sad part is that the writing is terrible, and every joke falls flat. Tiffany Haddish appears as police officer Vanessa Morgan who was hilarious and was in the only scene that made me laugh. Lydia Gaston plays Joe’s mother whose character is annoying and controlling. I just didn’t like her storyline. I did like Brandon Wardell as Joe, Jr. his son, but his story execution was predictable and cliche’. My biggest issues with this movie are that it has too many subplots and storylines that made it difficult to follow. The main plot revolves around Dev a gangster and villain played by Asif Ali whose character was unlikeable and over the top ridiculous. Also, it has an identity problem and doesn’t know what kind of movie it is. This was one of the worst comedies I have seen in a long time. I am giving “Easter Sunday” a 2/5 stars.
