Evil Dead Rise

Synopsis:

A reunion between two estranged sisters gets cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable

Movie Review:

“Evil Dead Rise” is directed by Lee Cronin and is the 5th installment of the popular horror franchise. This is a well-directed, intensely gory, and scary horror movie. What makes this uniquely different than the previous films in this franchise is that it takes place in an apartment building in L.A instead of a remote cabin. Lily Sullivan plays Beth (the likeable lead character) a caring, loving aunt who fights for her life throughout the film. The one who steals the show is Alyssa Sutherland. She plays Ellie the mother of the family who gets possessed by the evil book of the dead, and she is terrifying as the villain. The supporting cast of Danny, Kassie, and Bridget (the siblings) were extremely talented, and all the characters developed with the story. The movie was full of chilling jump scares that made you to look away at times. My biggest issue was with the opening scene even though it was intense it didn’t fit in this movie – I felt that it was just thrown in there because it is an ‘Evil Dead’ movie. This is still a decent horror movie loaded with terrifying moments that will please longtime fans of this franchise. I am giving “Evil Dead Rise” a 4/5 stars.
