Movie Review:

“Fast X” is directed by Louis Leterrier, and it is the 11th movie in the “Fast and Furious” franchise (10th officially). This is an over-the-top fun movie that is self-ware of its ridiculous action scenes that made the franchise popular and a hit with audiences. Vin Diesel returns to play Dominic Toretto and he takes on his most personal test as he must protect his family from the a lethal foe. Most of the original crew is back…Michelle Rodriguez (Letty), Tyrese Gibson (Roman), Ludacris (Tej), Nathalie Emmanuel (Ramsey) and Sung Kang (Han) and it’s exciting to watch them drive cars and do crazy impossible things. Jason Momoa plays the evil Dante Reyes, and he steals the show as the villain who is motivated by revenge. His character reminds me of the Joker at times. Alan Ritchson plays Aimes a mystery government agent who was a nice addition to the franchise and had some riveting action scenes. Daniela Melchior plays Isabel Neves, and she was my favorite new addition. Brie Larson plays Tess, and she was a wasted, weak character who didn’t have much to do in this movie. In my opinion, the first 45 minutes of this film are the most interesting and intense especially the opening action scene in Rome. This part of the movie is comparable to the “Fast Five” ten years ago. My biggest issue with the movie is after the first 45 minutes every character is separated by various subplots going on at the same time resulting in repetitive action scenes. And there are some fan favorite characters that do appear, but they only are in a scene or two which felt disappointing. But the movie does end in an unsatisfying cliffhanger, and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next. “Fast X” is a fun but bumpy ride. I am giving “Fast X” 3/5 stars.
