Father of the Bride

Synopsis: A father must come to grips with his daughter's upcoming wedding and handle multiple relationships within his sprawling Cuban American family.

Movie Review:

“Father of the Bride” is directed by Gary Alazraki, and it is the third remake of the classic story and this time it is about a Cuban-Latino family with a lot of baggage. Once again, the uptight father makes this film a romantic comedy that has heart. Even though this is a third remake and has a predictable story, it does try do something new. Andy Garcia plays Billy Herrera a famous architect who is a traditional thinking husband and an unlikable character in the beginning of the film. Gloria Estefan plays Billy’s wife, and she was one of my favorite characters. The subplot of the movie is the divorce story between Garcia/Estefan. Adria Arjona plays Sofia the older daughter who is getting married. Isabela Merced plays younger daughter Cora a rebel who wants to start her own business as a fashion designer and her character brings the most humor to the movie. Diego Boneta plays Adan the fiancé of Sofia and they had great romantic chemistry that felt real. The biggest problems I found were the side characters that didn’t work especially the wedding planner played by Chloe Fineman who was not funny and just plain annoying. And the storyline gets chaotic, silly, and unrealistic at times. I did love the different Cuban traditions and customs that were interesting and informative. This remake is a combination of “Crazy Rich Asians” and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. I am giving “Father of the Bride” a 3.5/5 stars.
