Ghostbuster: Afterlife

Synopsis: When a single mother and her two children move to a new town, they soon discover they have a connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

Movie Review:

“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” is directed by Jason Reitman (the son of director Ivan Reitman who in fact directed the original 2 films of the franchise) and he delivered an entertaining movie that captured the heart and the humor of the 1984 film by creating new characters blended into an old story. The film does a great job of hitting the same tone of nostalgia that makes you remember the original. I loved the new characters like Phoebe (played by Mckenna Grace) who steals the show as this awkward 12-year-old kid. Phoebe is related to Egon Spengler from the original “Ghostbusters”, and she nailed the humor as well as the imitating of Spengler. Paul Rudd plays science teacher Gary Grooberson who becomes a mentor and kind of a father figure for Phoebe. Paul Rudd is funny and charming, and his chemistry with Phoebe was great. Logan Kim plays Podcast a friend of Phoebe and their friendship was the heart of the story. Carrie Coon plays Callie a single mother who is struggling with parenthood. Finn Wolfhard plays Trevor the older brother, and I wish he had more character development throughout the film. There were some surprising cameos which added to the movie. I thought the beginning of the movie captured a great balance between fan nostalgia and new things. However, I was disappointed in the ending which was a copying of a familiar plot of the original – just lazy writing. But I felt “Ghostbuster: Afterlife” was a fun sequel for the whole family. I am giving “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” a 3.5/ 5 Stars.
