Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire

Synopsis: Godzilla and the mighty Kong are up against a massive threat lurking deep within the planet, putting their existence and the survival of humanity at stake.

Movie Review:  

"Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire" is the fifth installment in the monster verse directed by Adam Wingard. It continues the epic saga that began in 2021 with "Godzilla vs. Kong." While some may find these movies to be mindless fun, I personally enjoy the incredible action sequences that bring King Kong and Godzilla together to battle other monsters.

Rebecca Hall reprises her role as Dr. Ilene Andrews, the scientist in charge of King Kong, and her storyline delves deeper into the mysterious Hollow Earth where Kong resides. The film spends a lot of time exploring this fascinating world, which I found to be quite engaging.

One of my favorite human characters was Jia, played by Kaylee Hottie, Dr. Ilene's daughter. Her connection to King Kong and the Hollow Earth added an interesting layer to the story that I genuinely cared about. Dan Stevens also stood out as Trapper, a quirky vet with humorous antics that provided some comic relief.

On the other hand, Brian Tyree Henry's character, Bernie, a podcaster trying to be funny, fell flat for me. His jokes seemed forced and detracted from the overall enjoyment of the film.

While the movie starts off a bit slow with too much scientific exposition, once the action kicks in, it's a wild ride. The final act is a blast, with massive monster battles that deliver on the promise of epic showdowns.

My main gripe with the film is that some of the ideas feel a bit far-fetched and childish, like they were pulled from a kid's imagination. Despite this, "Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire" is a fun, action-packed movie that feels like a silly Saturday morning cartoon come to life. I'd give it a 3.5/5 stars.
