Guy Richie's The Covenant

Synopsis:

“The Covenant” follows US Army Sergeant John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Afghan interpreter Ahmed (Dar Salim). After an ambush, Ahmed goes to herculean lengths to save Kinley’s life. When Kinley learns that Ahmed and his family were not given safe passage to America as promised, he must repay his debt by returning to the war zone to retrieve them before the Taliban hunts them down first.

Movie Review:

“The Covenant” is directed by Guy Ritchie, and it is an original war film built around the Iraq war. Without using his over-the-top style, Guy Ritchie made an emotional and intense movie with a talented cast. Jake Gyllenhaal plays John Kinley a Sargent in the US Army, and he gives a dramatic performance as this heroic character. The bond that he develops with his interpreter Ahmed played by Dar Salim was the heart of the movie which carries the story from beginning to end. The action is realistic and heart stopping that will leave you gasping at times. Emily Beecham plays Caroline Jake’s wife who is the voice of reason and is the one person supportive of her husband no matter what. Antony Starr plays Eddie Parker a military contractor who helps Jake with his mission, but he doesn’t have lot of screen time. Both Alexander Ludwig and Jonny Lee Millar have little to do in this movie. “The Covenant” is an entertaining movie about war, bravery, and sacrifice. This is one of my favorite movies that has come out this year. I am giving “The Covenant” a 4.5/5 stars.
