Movie Review:
"Heretic," directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, is an original horror thriller that is both smart and intense. The film challenges your faith in religion with a haunting performance by Hugh Grant. Sophie Thatcher portrays Sister Barnes, a young missionary working for a Mormon church who begins to question her beliefs. She is a compelling lead character that draws you in and makes you care about her journey. On the other hand, Chloe East plays Sister Barnes, who is deeply devoted to her religion, making her a strong and likable character.
The standout performance by Hugh Grant as Mr. Reed, a fascinating and charming villain, adds to the intensity of the movie. He is a great manipulator, using the weaknesses of the women against them, making him one of the best villains in a horror movie. The atmosphere and creepiness of the small house where they are trapped adds to the isolation and intensity of the film.
The directors did a great job of keeping the audience engaged as the characters discuss faith. Topher Grace's role as Elder Kennedy, the church leader, felt underutilized in a small scene. The ending of the film is satisfying and thought-provoking, although it may divide viewers as it leaves some questions unanswered.
"Heretic" is an intriguing and thought-provoking horror movie that challenges your faith, with great performances from the lead actors. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars.
