Movie Review:
"Jurassic World Rebirth" marks the seventh installment in the beloved "Jurassic Park" franchise, aiming to return to its roots with a straightforward story that emphasizes horror and delivers some unforgettable dinosaur moments. While it manages to be more enjoyable than some of its predecessors, its conventional structure ultimately makes for an average cinematic experience.
Scarlett Johansson shines as Zora Bennett, a mercenary and soldier, delivering a compelling performance that showcases her strength and fearlessness. She stands out as one of the more memorable protagonists in recent films. Jonathan Bailey, portraying Dr. Henry Loomis, the dinosaur expert, truly steals the show with his sharp wit, charm, and engaging personality. His chemistry with Zora is palpable, making audiences root for their potential romance.
Mahershala Ali also delivers a strong performance as Duncan, the boat captain. His emotional depth adds a layer to the film, although his character has less to work with due to a somewhat mediocre script.
The film features some intense and thrilling dinosaur scenes, including a heart-pounding T-Rex chase and a boat pursuit that evokes memories of "Jaws." The third act is particularly suspenseful and frightening. Visually, the movie is stunning, with impressive effects that bring the dinosaurs to life in a truly awe-inspiring way.
However, the film does have its flaws. The introduction of a shipwrecked family felt unnecessary and detracted from the main storyline. Some of the family members came off as annoying and silly, which made it less enjoyable whenever the focus shifted to them. Additionally, the pacing drags in the second act, and the inclusion of mutated dinosaurs felt out of place, reminiscent of a "Star Wars" film, which was disappointing.
Overall, "Jurassic World Rebirth" is a solid, if safe, blockbuster that offers a fun time at the movies. I’d give it a 3 out of 5 stars.
