King Richard

Training on tennis courts in Compton, Calif., Richard shapes the girls' unyielding commitment and keen intuition. Together, the Williams family defies seemingly insurmountable odds and the prevailing expectations laid before them.

Movie Review:

“King Richard” is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, and it is based on the incredible inspiring true story of the father of Serena and Venus Williams who become the best tennis players in the world. Will Smith plays Richard Williams a father who cares about his daughters and who will do anything for them. He has a life plan for them and sets out to make it happen. Will Smith delivers a great performance as Richard Williams. John Bernthal plays Rick Marcci a famous tennis coach who coaches both Serena and Venus. I’m predicting a best supporting actor nomination for him. The film does a great job balancing the complicated relationship between Richard and his daughters, especially their different ideas on coaching and the frustration that comes with being professional athletes. Demi Singleton and Saniyya Sidney play young Serena and Venus Williams -- they showed what drove their successes on and off the field and how they beat the odds. The supporting cast of Aunjanue Ellis, Tony Goldwyn and Liev Schreiber were all relevant characters that added to this inspiring story. The tennis scenes were exciting and fun to watch and were very realistic. I love sports dramas and this is one of the best that I have seen. This is one of my favorite films of the year. I am giving “King Richard” a 5 out of 5 stars.
