Let Him Go

Synopsis: Following the loss of their son, a retired sheriff and his wife leave their Montana ranch to rescue their young grandson from the clutches of a dangerous family living off the grid in the Dakotas.

Movie Review:

“Let Him Go” was directed by Thomas Bezucha and is based on the novel of the same name. It is a western thriller that is violent and intense with fantastic performances from Kevin Costner and Diane Lane. Every scene they were in was electrifying. Diane Lane portrays the strong, grieving mother who will pull on your heartstrings as she will stop at nothing to get her grandson back from a dangerous family. Kevin Costner plays George Blackledge who just wants to protect his wife by any means necessary and he shows such courage in his performance. When George and Margaret go on their journey to the Dakotas, they run into Peter Dragswolf an Indian young man played by Booboo Stewart. He helps them find the Weboy family and his limited role helps move the plot forward. Lesley Manville plays villainous Blanche Weboy and I found her performance as this powerful and evil female character unforgettable. She was one of the most terrifying villains that I have seen in a movie in years. All of the supporting cast -- Jeffery Donovan, Will Hochman and Will Brittain delivered strong performances especially Kayli Carter (Lorna Blackledge the widow of their son). She had some of the most emotional scenes with Costner and Lane. Some issues that I had with the film were that it is a slow-paced movie with a lot of dialogue, and the ending was predictable but not boring. I thought “Let ‘Him Go” was an intense, brutal western with amazing performances by Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Lesly Manville. I am giving “Let Him Go” a 4 out of 5 stars.
