Liza Frankenstein

Synopsis: A misunderstood teenager and a reanimated Victorian corpse embark on a murderous journey together to find love, happiness, and a few missing body parts.

Movie Review:

“Lisa Frankenstein” is directed by Zelda Williams making this her directorial debut, and it is a weird comedy with gothic looks that made this an amazing throwback to an 80s film. Kathryn Newton is electric playing Lisa Swallows a misunderstood teenager who is an outcast with a tragic past, but she is relatable and likable even though she does some terrible things. Cole Sprouse plays the creature, and he does have romantic chemistry with Kathryn Newton that makes the weird love story work even though he grunts his way through most of the movie. Liza Soberano plays Taffy Lisa’s stepsister, and her character is the standout in the movie.  Carla Gugino plays the typical bad stepmother who is mean and unlikable. There are many problems with this film.  The comedy falls flat at times and appears awkward. The story gets predictable by the end. And some characters are wasted by useless subplots. I thought this was a fun movie that felt like a combination of “Edward ScissorHands” and “Weird Science”. I am giving “Lisa Frankenstein” a 3.5/5 stars.
