Longlegs

Synopsis: FBI Agent Lee Harker is assigned to an unsolved serial killer case that takes an unexpected turn, revealing evidence of the occult. Harker discovers a personal connection to the killer and must stop him before he strikes again.

Movie Review:

"Longlegs," directed by Oz Perkins, is an original cop thriller in the same vein as "Silence of the Lambs," "Seven," and "Zodiac." This film stands out as one of the better movies in the genre, offering an unsettling, chilling, and suspenseful experience. The incredible filmmaking and creepy atmosphere had me hooked from the opening credits to the chilling ending that left me shook with its message of the devil.

Maika Monroe delivers a fantastic performance as F.B.I Agent Lee Harker, portraying a smart, intelligent, and awkward character with a haunting connection to the case. Her performance was riveting and one of the best I've seen all year. Blair Underwood also shines as Agent Carter, the head of the F.B.I. The supporting cast, including Alicia Witt, Michelle Choi-Lee, Lisa Chandler, and Kiernan Shipka, deliver intense and creepy performances.

Nicolas Cage steals the show as Longlegs, the serial killer. His transformation into a haunting presence is unpleasant, chilling, and at times, over-the-top. While some jump scares are perfectly timed and effective, the movie overall isn't very scary. The addition of a supernatural storyline felt convoluted and was the biggest issue for me.

The third act is satisfying and intense, making the movie entertaining to watch. However, I wasn't the biggest fan of the ending. "Longlegs" may not be the scariest movie of all time, but it is a chilling and haunting serial killer thriller that ranks as one of the best movies of the year.

I am giving it a 4/5 stars.
