 Movie Review:

“Madame Web” is directed by S.J. Clarkson, and this is Sony’s latest attempt of making another spin off that revolves around the Spider-Man universe without having Spider-Man in the movie.  Unfortunately, this was a dud. The only decent aspect was Dakota Johnson who plays Cassandra Webb.   She gives a mediocre performance from the terrible script she was given and had some humorous moments that made the movie watchable.  Sydney Sweeney (Julia Carpenter), Isabela Merced (Anya Corazon) and Celeste O’Connor (Mattie Franklin) all become Spider-Women in the future that reminds me of “Terminator” and a “Final Destination” feel that I enjoyed. However, there are many problems with this movie besides the script. The villain Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim) who wears a Spider-Man type costume has a boring origin story, and bad dialogue. Emma Roberts and Adam Scott play important people in Peter Parker’s life but are completely wasted. The third act is anti-climactic. The film does have some interesting ideas but fails to stand on its own.  Instead spends too much time connecting it to the Spider-Man universe. In my opinion, “Madame Web” is a bad movie that should never have been released. I am giving it a 2/5 stars.
