Movie Review:

“Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1” is directed by Christopher McQuarrie (directing for the third time), and it is the 7th installment in this action franchise starring Tom Cruise. This movie is a non-stop, heart pounding thrill ride from beginning to end. From the incredible car chase in Rome, the tense race against time in Venice, and the train scene, the film proves this franchise gets better each time. Tom Cruise returns to play Ethan Hunt who gives his best performance as this character. Once again Cruise performs most of his own stunts which look effortless and natural. I loved learning about Ethan’s backstory which made him more human and relatable. The returning team Simon Peg (Benjie), Ving Rhames (Luther) and Rebecca Ferguson (Ilsa Fraust) have some great moments on screen but don’t have a lot to do in the movie which was disappointing. Haley Atwell steals the show as a new character named Grace a thief that teams up with Ethan Hunt, and her witty personality plays off Tom Cruise and she had amazing chemistry with him. Esai Morales plays Gabriel a smart and calculating new villain with ties to Ethan’s past. It was great to see Henry Czerny as Kittridge a character who was in the original ‘Mission Impossible’. Pom Klementieff plays Paris a female assassin comparable to a female Terminator, and she has some powerful action scenes. The only issue that I had was this is clearly a part 1 of 2 story so there were lots of explaining throughout that gets convoluted at times. I loved this action-packed movie, and I am excited for Part 2. I am giving “Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1” 4.5/5 stars.
