Monkey Man

Synopsis: : A young man struggles to make ends meet in an underground fight club, where he wears a gorilla mask and gets beaten up by more popular fighters for money. After years of pent-up anger, he finds a way to infiltrate the city's elite and seek revenge on those who wronged him. With his scarred hands and childhood trauma driving him, he unleashes a fierce campaign of retribution to settle the score once and for all.

Movie Review:

"Monkey Man" marks the directorial debut of Dev Patel, who also stars in this gripping revenge action film. The movie is a bloody, brutal, and well-acted original piece that showcases Patel's talent behind the camera.

Patel portrays Kid, a young man with a tragic past seeking vengeance against the men responsible for his mother's death. His performance is truly star-making, delivering breathtaking action sequences that are expertly directed, ultra-violent, and satisfying. Additionally, Patel shines in the dramatic scenes, making his character incredibly likable.

Sharlto Copley delivers a solid performance as Tiger, a washed-up ring announcer, although his character could have been more developed. Sikandar Kher impresses as the villainous Rana Singh, a corrupt police chief who adds depth to the story with his despicable nature.

Inspired by action movies and Indian culture, Patel infuses the film with unique elements such as music, clothing, and religious references. While the movie falters slightly in the slow-paced second act and occasionally rushed action scenes, overall, "Monkey Man" is an entertaining ride that showcases Patel's potential as a director. With its amazing action sequences and compelling story, this film proves that Dev Patel has a promising future behind the camera.

I am giving “Monkey Man” a 4/5 stars.
