Night Swim

Synopsis:

Forced into early retirement by a degenerative illness, former baseball player Ray Waller moves into a new house with his wife and two children. He hopes that the backyard swimming pool will be fun for the kids and provide physical therapy for himself. However, a dark secret from the home's past soon unleashes a malevolent force that drags the family into the depths of inescapable terror.

Movie Review:

“Night Swim” is directed by Bryce McGuire, and it is based on the 4-minute short film from 10 years ago turned into a 98-minute horror movie that might be one of the worst movies I have seen. The only good thing in this movie was the interesting and intense opening scene that felt like the opening of “Jaws”. However, the movie goes downhill from there.  Ray Waller the main character with a tragic backstory (Wyatt Russell) and his wife Eve Waller (Kerry Condon) are boring and have some of the worst dialogue in any horror movie.  Izzy Waller (Amelie Hoeforle) and Elliot Waller (Gavin Warren) the children play uninteresting, forgettable characters throughout every scene they are in.  My biggest issue was the tone of the movie that flip flops from silly to serious – this is a poorly written horror movie that is not scary but relies on cheap jump scares that don’t work. “Night Swim” had a decent concept and some interesting ideas, but the execution went horribly wrong. I am giving “Night Swim” a 1.5/5 stars.
