Synopsis: When the girl of his dreams gets kidnapped, a man turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected advantage as he fights a bunch of thugs to get her back.
Movie Review:
"Novocaine," directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, is an action comedy that takes us back to the fun and straightforward plots of 80s/90s action films. The movie follows Nathan Cain, played by the likable Jack Quaid, a 30-year-old with a medical disorder that prevents him from feeling pain. His character is relatable, charming, and just an all-around good guy.
Amber Midthunder shines as Sherry, Nathan's love interest, bringing fearlessness and charm to her role. The chemistry between Jack Quaid and Amber Midthunder is so real and romantic, making their love story truly captivating.
Jacob Batalon adds humor as Roscoe, Nathan's best friend, but I wish his character had more to do in the movie. Ray Nicholson is fantastic as the unhinged and psychotic villain, Simon, fitting perfectly into the over-the-top action movie.
The dynamic and entertaining action scenes keep you engaged throughout the film. However, the subplot involving two cops, played by Betty Gabriel and Matt Walsh, feels unnecessary and adds little to the overall story.
While the movie does become predictable and silly towards the end, it still provides a fun time at the movies. Overall, I would give "Novocaine" a solid 3.5/5 stars.
