Movie Review:

“One Night in Miami” is the directorial debut of Regina King and is the adaptation from the one-room play of the same name. Regina King delivered a riveting and intense film that mostly takes place in a hotel room with four black icons that would turn the tide of the civil rights movement. I loved every minute of this film but especially the incredible performances from its four main leads. The message of this movie is still a relevant and important topic that is being discussed today. Eli Goree who plays the naïve and loyal friend Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) was extraordinary. I was also impressed with Aldis Hodge who plays former Cleveland Browns running back Jim Brown. Every scene that he is in was captivating. He is subtle and even tempered but he gets his point across with emotion and clarity. The actor who steals the show was Kingsley Ben-Adir who plays the famous human rights activist leader Malcom X. His performance was powerful. Leslie Odom, Jr. plays singer Sam Cooke. His scenes with Kingsley Ben-Adir (Malcolm X) were some of the best parts of the movie. In my opinion they both deserve Oscar nominations. Regina King’s directorial debut didn’t disappoint. She delivered a well-executed, social commentary with incredible performances by its four cast members. I am giving “One Night in Miami” a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
