Movie Review:

"Predator: Badlands" is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who kicked off this franchise with the amazing film "Prey." That movie really revived this 80’s franchise, and just like this one, he delivered a thrilling science fiction action flick that expands on the lore and mythology of the Predator universe. By taking a different approach, he made this one of the best blockbusters of the year for me. This is the first time in the Predator series that the Predator is the main character, portrayed as a misfit who is a weaker version but has a powerful and emotional storyline about family. This made me really connect with the character named Dek. Dek is played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, who gives a standout performance as this creature filled with emotion, heart, and determination during his hunt, making him a character I genuinely cared about. The action is incredible and fast-paced, visually brutal and bloody, which is super satisfying for the audience. Elle Fanning plays Thia, an android who teams up with Dek, and their dynamic sometimes turns into a buddy comedy, but it totally works because of their amazing chemistry. She also delivers a fantastic performance, bringing a lot of the humor that had me laughing throughout the film. Additionally, Elle Fanning plays Tessa, Thia's sister, who is the main villain. She portrays her in a uniquely evil way that makes her truly despicable, giving us a solid reason to dislike her. The third act is packed with clever Easter eggs and references to the "Alien" franchise, which got me excited about a potential crossover in the future. My only complaint is that the movie slows down a bit in the middle, causing a slight pacing issue, but other than that, this is a fantastic science fiction action movie that shows Dan Trachtenberg knows exactly what he's doing with the Predator franchise. I'm giving "Predator: Badlands" a 4.5/5.
