Movie Review:

“Rebel Moon-Part One: Child of Fire” is directed by Zack Snyder who was trying to launch a new type of science fiction movie.  Unfortunately, I was disappointed with this boring science fiction movie that takes ideas from “Star Wars”, “Seven”, “Samaria” and “Dune”. Sadly, this film is anything but new and original.  The only thing worth watching is Snyder’s concepts and style of the film that are visually captivating making you feel that you are part of it.  Sofia Boutella plays Kora a farmer that has a dark past with Empire.  Her character is a strong warrior with a tragic past and she has some intense action scenes.  However, her dialogue is cringeworthy, and you wish that her character would be silent at times. Almost every character Gunnar (Michiel Huisman), General Titus (Djimon Honsou), Kai (Charlie Hunnam), Tarak (Staz Nair), Nemesis (Bae Doona) and Darrian Bloodaxe (Ray Fisher) were all wasted and had nothing to do besides a few scattered action scenes. Ed Skrein plays Admiral Atticus Noble the main villain who tries to be a space Hitler, but he comes off as a silly, one noted bad guy. Despite the long boring build up the third act does deliver action-packed excitement. I really wanted to like this movie, but it turned out to be a science fiction rip off of previous movies with a badly written script. I am giving “Rebel Moon-Part One: Child of Fire” a 2.5/5 stars.
