Movie Review:

"Regretting You" is directed by Josh Boone and is adapted from the coming-of-age romance novel of the same name. It features a talented young cast that I really like, but the clumsy and dull script ruins some of the romances I was rooting for, making it feel more like a soap opera with melodramatic elements. McKenna Grace plays Clara Grant, a 17-year-old who loses both her father and aunt in a single day. She delivers a strong performance, skillfully balancing a whirlwind of emotions while navigating her first love, which makes her one of the highlights of the film. Mason Thames portrays Miller Adams, the guy Clara falls for, and he also gives a charming and charismatic performance as the film nerd who's smitten with her. Their chemistry is fantastic, making their romance feel genuine. However, I found it hard to believe that Mason's character is the most popular guy in school and the so-called 'bad boy,' which honestly made me chuckle. Allison Williams plays Morgan Grant, Clara's young mother, and she gives a decent performance as a widow who has lost her husband and sister, which made me care about her. Still, her character comes off as a bit too uptight, and she seems to be yelling all the time. Dave Franco plays Jonah Sullivan, Morgan's best friend, and while he gives an okay performance, his character has been in love with Morgan for 12 years, but that storyline felt boring since they had zero chemistry, making it cringeworthy. The supporting cast, including Clancy Brown and Sam Morelos, delivers decent performances, but their characters are underutilized and feel wasted. My biggest problem with this movie is how dull and predictable it becomes, making it feel like a Hallmark film despite having great actors. "Regretting You" is a melodramatic coming-of-age story with a teenage romance that I enjoyed, but the weak script brings it down. I'm giving it a 2.5 out of 5 stars.
