Reminiscence

Synopsis: A scientist discovers a way to relive your past and uses the technology to search for his long-lost love. A private investigator uncovers a conspiracy while helping his clients recover lost memories.

Movie Review:

“Reminiscence” is directed by Lisa Joy, and it is an original science fiction film. Unfortunately, it is just boring. What I liked the most about the movie was Hugh Jackman’s performance. He carries the film, and he is one of the reasons why his storyline kept my interest. Hugh Jackman plays Nick Bannister a former soldier turned scientist who must find his lost love played by Rebecca Ferguson. I did like their on-screen chemistry with one another, and their romance was the strongest plot element of the movie. Thandie Newton plays Watts, Nick’s work partner and best friend, and their scenes together were some of the best in the film. There are many problems that I had with this movie -- There are too few action scenes (2 in the entire film). There were too many characters and plots that were uninteresting. And this movie tries too hard to be a classic sci-fi film like “Blade Runner” but fails. However, it does have some great CGI and new technology that will be revolutionary and change the way other films in the science fiction genre will be made in the future. Despite good acting, decent world building, and an interesting concept, I thought this was a missed opportunity and a highly disappointing film. I am giving “Reminiscence” a 2/5 stars.
