Rosaline

Synopsis: A comedic retelling of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," told from the point of view of Romeo's jilted ex, Rosaline, the woman Romeo first claims to love before he falls for Juliet.

Movie Review:

“Rosaline” is directed by Bradley Whiteford, and it is a comedic retelling of the classic story from Romeo’s ex Rosaline’s point of view. I found it to be a delightful, hilarious take of the story that everyone knows. Kaitlyn Dever is electric and sarcastic as Rosaline, and she has spot on comedic timing that works in a clever way as she spins a modern twist to a 14th century setting. Isablela Merced plays the classic character Juliet a naïve young teen who is in love with Romeo. Kyle Allen plays Romeo, and he is charming and funny as this character. The actor who steals the show is Sean Teale who plays Dario Rosaline’s love interest. They have great on-screen chemistry together and their relationship story is some of the best parts of the movie. Minnie Driver plays Rosaline’s Nurse who adds some sarcastic humor as well. There are the usual predictable outcomes and cliches that appear in most rom coms, but this film is still entertaining to watch. I enjoyed this humorous retelling of a classic story. I am giving “Rosaline” a 3.5/5 stars.
