Scream (2022)

Synopsis: Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, California, a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town's deadly past.

Movie Review:

“Scream” is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpiin andTyler Gillet, and it is the 5th Scream movie of the franchise. This film blends the original legend cast with new characters so well and I loved how it worked. The opening scene is chilling as the new killer who dons the Ghostface mask has some deadly kills. Two new characters are Tara Carpenter and Sam played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. They play sisters and the main story revolves around their relationship. Unfortunately, they share the most tragic scene of the movie. Jack Quaid plays Richie the quirky boyfriend of Sam and he adds some much-needed humor to the movie. David Arquette reprises his role as former Sherriff of Woodsboro. Dewey he is older and wiser this time around who just wants to help the new characters take down Ghostface. Arquette’s chemistry with Courtney Cox who plays reporter Gale Weathers once again is amazing. Both Courtney Cox and Neve Campbell don’t miss a beat and it was wonderful to see them again. While the movie is full of suspense, at times it feels like a copy of the original. But the biggest problem I had was with the reveal of the killer -- it was underwhelming and predictable. This is a scary, gory reboot/sequel of the 1996 “Scream” that I enjoyed. I am giving “Scream (2022)” a 4/5 stars.
