Movie Review:

“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” is the sequel to the 2020 surprise hit and is based on the popular video game of the same name. This is one of the better video games to movie adaptations sequels. Ben Schwartz who voices Sonic is still funny and sarcastic as this character. His chemistry with James Marsden who plays Tom was great, and it feels like a father/son dynamic that was the heart of the movie. Tika Sumpter plays Tom’s wife Maddie who has a bigger part in this film. Some of the best scenes are the family relationships, especially between Tails (another space hedgehog) voiced by Colleen O’Shaughnessy and Sonic. Their friendship is heartwarming and emotional. Just like the first movie, Jim Carey is wonderful as the master mind super genius Doctor Egg man. He is evil and comical in every scene. Idris Elba (he steals the show) plays Knuckles a tough red Hedgehog who wants revenge on Sonic, and he has some of the best action scenes in the movie – they were intense and exciting to watch. There were some problems with the film. It suffers from a senseless subplot about a wedding in Hawaii that I didn’t care about. Some of the humor fell flat, and there were too many references from classic films that felt forced. Also, there were some side characters that were too fake and unrealistic. Although I thought the first movie was better, the sequel is entertaining and a wonderful family film. I am giving “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” a 3/5 stars.
