Synopsis: Two college freshmen make a pact to break-up with their high school sweethearts over Thanksgiving break, leading them on a chaotic night out in their hometown that puts their co-dependent friendship to the test.

Movie Review:

"Sweathearts" marks Jordan Weiss's directorial debut, offering an original rom-com that, while predictable, still manages to charm with its two leads. Kiernan Shipka shines as Jamie, a witty and endearing college freshman struggling to connect with her peers due to past experiences. Shipka's performance proves she is a rising star to watch. Nico Hiraga, as Ben, Jamie's best friend, brings a charming presence and undeniable chemistry with Shipka that makes their friendship feel genuine. Caleb Hearon steals scenes as Palmer, their hilarious gay best friend. Ava DeMary and Charlie Hall deliver decent performances as Claire and Simon, but their characters feel underutilized in the film's rushed plot. Some scenes come off as silly and unrealistic, pulling viewers out of the story, while the film's adherence to rom-com clichés can make it feel formulaic at times. Despite its flaws, "Sweathearts" is a solid, if generic, rom-com with standout performances from its leads. I am giving this movie a 3/5 stars.
