The Adam Project

Synopsis: After accidentally crash-landing in 2022, time-traveling fighter pilot Adam Reed teams up with his 12-year-old self for a mission to save the future.

Movie Review:

“The Adam Project” is directed by Shawn Levy, and it is an original science fiction throwback of the classic Stephen Spielberg films of the 1980s like “E.T”, “Back to the Future” and “The Last Starfighter”. This entertaining action-adventure movie has a heartwarming subplot as well as two great leads in the film. Ryan Reynolds plays Adam Reed a time traveling fighter pilot who is always funny and charming, and his character had some dramatic moments too. The actor who steals the show is Walker Scobell who plays Reynold’s 12-year-old younger self, and he has great chemistry with Reynolds. Jennifer Garner plays the mom Ellie Reed who shows a lot of motherly emotion throughout the movie, and she has some touching scenes with Reynolds and Scobell. Mark Ruffalo is great as the late dad Louis Reed, and he is wonderful in this movie. He has some emotional scenes with his sons especially the ending – it will bring tears to your eyes. There are some exciting action scenes that were well directed. Even though Zoe Saldana who plays Laura had some cool action scenes, I thought she was wasted and only in the movie for short periods. Catherine Keener plays the main villain, but I found her to be a weak unlikeable character. My biggest issue with this movie is some of the time travel plot lines get a little convoluted and confusing so they make no sense. This is still a fun science fiction film that is thrilling, energetic and family motivated. I am giving “The Adam Project” a 3.5/5 stars.
