The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

Synopsis:

Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren take on one of the most sensational cases of their careers after a cop stumbles upon a dazed and bloodied young man walking down the road. Accused of murder, the suspect claims demonic possession as his defense, forcing the Warrens into a supernatural inquiry unlike anything they've ever seen before.

Movie Review:

“The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” is directed by Michael Chaves, and it is the third movie of the Conjuring Trilogy and the 8th film in the universe that they set up way back in 2013. This is a good and solid film that has great acting by its two leads, some creepy imagery that is haunting and scary, and an interesting investigation that is compelling. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return to play paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, and they have great chemistry as this onscreen couple, and they are both fantastic in this movie. This time around, the story is more about the Warrens – their personal health issues and how it effects their investigation. The film contains a lot of disturbing imagery that will keep you up at night, especially, a terrifying opening scene that has a human exorcism that is intense. Ruairi O’Connor plays Arne the young man who is accused of murder and possessed by a demon. In my opinion, he is the standout in this film. Unfortunately, Arne has a weak storyline and boring sub-plot. Also, the supporting cast gave impressive performances; like Sarah Catherine Hook who plays Debbie Arne’s girlfriend – her scenes were emotional and heartbreaking. While this film is a solid third entry of a franchise, I felt it was the least scary of the three. It does have a few terrifying scenes that are memorable (like the waterbed scene) that I enjoyed. However, the movie does feel like a TV show at times and the ending was disappointing. I am giving “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” a 3.5/5 stars.
