Synopsis:

As a future war between the human race and artificial intelligence rages on, ex-special forces agent Joshua is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI. The Creator has developed a mysterious weapon that has the power to end the war and all of mankind. As Joshua and his team of elite operatives venture into enemy-occupied territory, they soon discover the world-ending weapon is actually an AI in the form of a young child.

Movie Review:

“The Creator” is directed by Gareth Edward, and it is an original science fiction movie that delivers amazing action scenes, talented acting, and an ending that has a great message about humanity. The incredible visuals and amazing CGI that transports you into a future realistic world of a civil war with A.I makes this one of the best modern day science fiction movies. John David Washington plays Joshua a soldier that wants to destroy all the weapons that the A.I has made. And this character has an interesting emotional story arc about love, loss, and humanity that made his performance stand out especially when he meets Alphie a child that holds the key to shift the war. Another standout was the kid that plays Alphie Madeleine Yuna Voyles. She brought humor and heart to the scenes she shared with Joshua. Allison Janney plays Colonel Howell the villain of the movie, and she has a tragic backstory that elevates her character from being just an evil military bad guy. There were some wasted actors like Gemma Chan and Ken Watanabe who had great potential but had a disappointing story arc. The movie had a world building that made it feel like “Blade Runner”, “Terminator”,” Alien” and “District 9” that was amazing at times, but it felt too familiar. The movie was also way too long. “The Creator” might not be the greatest science fiction movie but it is entertaining to watch. I am giving it a 4/5 stars.
