The Devil Wears Prada 2

Synopsis: As Miranda Priestly nears retirement, she reunites with Andy Sachs to face off against her former assistant turned rival; Emily Charlton 

Movie Review: 

"The Devil Wears Prada 2" is once again directed by David Frankel, and it's the much-anticipated sequel to the 2006 rom-com that has gained a cult following over the past 20 years. This film captures all the classic story elements that made the original a cult favorite, but it also brings a more engaging narrative about the decline of journalism, which I found surprisingly enjoyable. Meryl Streep reprises her role as the demanding Miranda Priestly, the same cranky, confident, and hardworking Vogue boss. She hasn't missed a beat in her performance; after 20 years, she still completely owns this role, delivering a funny yet authoritative portrayal. Anne Hathaway is back as Andy Sachs, now a journalist who must return to work for Miranda. She brings the same charm, wit, and charisma to the character that made her a star in 2006, and her performance is fantastic. Stanley Tucci returns as Nigel Kipling, the Vogue fashion editor, and he steals the show with his hilarious insults that had me laughing throughout the film. For me, he has the best character arc in the movie. While some story moments are repeated from the first film, it evolves into its own narrative in the second and third acts. Emily Blunt is back as Emily Charlton, now heading a competing fashion line. She delivers a solid performance, but her role feels underutilized, as she mostly stays in the background, which seems like a waste of her talent. The new cast members, including Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, B.J. Novak, Caleb Hearon, and Helen J. Shen, all contribute to the story with fun scenes that make them feel significant. I'm a big fan of Justin Theroux, who plays the wealthy tech CEO Benji Barnes. His over-the-top, silly performance didn't sit well with me, making him the weakest part of the movie. There’s also a forced love story between Andy and a man that felt dull and repetitive compared to the first film. As someone who enjoyed the original, I found this sequel to be solid, featuring a charming cast and a lot to enjoy.

 I am giving The Devil Wears Prada 2 a 3.5/5 stars.
