Synopsis: An Orphaned teen hits the road with a mysterious robot to find her long-lost brother, teaming up with a smuggler and his wisecracking sidekick.
Movie Review:
"The Electric State, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, is based on the popular science fiction novel of the same name. It attempts to be an epic science fiction adventure with heart, humor, and emotion, but unfortunately falls short in all of these areas. The movie ended up being dull, boring, and filled with terrible writing, making it one of the worst films I've seen all year.
The only saving grace was Millie Bobby Brown's portrayal of Michelle, an orphaned teen with a lot of heart and likable qualities that make you care about her. She delivers a decent performance that stands out. The attempt to add emotional stakes with the storyline of her lost brother fell flat, lacking the necessary emotion and heart.
Chris Pratt's portrayal of Keats, an older smuggler reminiscent of Han Solo, was okay. He brought charm, charisma, and comedy to the role, but unfortunately, he was given some of the worst dialogue, making his character more annoying than endearing.
The voice cast, including Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, and Jenny Slate, played important roles as robots but were not given much to work with, resulting in terrible lines of dialogue. Ke Huy Quan's portrayal of Dr. Amherst was completely wasted, as the character was criminally useless and should not have been included in the film.
Giancarlo Esposito's portrayal of Colonel Bradbury, one of the villains, was also wasted, with horrendous dialogue that came across as cheesy and silly. However, the worst performance came from Stanley Tucci as Ethan Stakes, the main villain, who delivered one of the most bland and one-note performances I've seen, making it seem like he didn't even try to act in this movie.
Overall, "Electric State" was a waste of time and one of the worst movies I've seen this year. I would give it a 1.5/5 stars."
