The King's Man

Synopsis: One man must race against time to stop history's worst tyrants and criminal masterminds as they get together to plot a war that could wipe out millions of people and destroy humanity

Movie Review:

“The King’s Man” is directed by Mathew Vaughn, and it is the third film in the popular Kingsman franchise. A prequel of where and how the spy organization was created, this film is packed with exciting, stylized action scenes, great acting by its cast and a riveting story. Ralph Fiennes plays the Duke of Oxford an honorable man who wants to protect his son from the war but at the same time is ruthless. And he is great in the action scenes. Harris Dickinson plays the son Conrad Oxford and his relationship with his father was the heart and soul of the film. Some of their conversations are the best part of the movie. The two standouts were Gemma Arterton (Polly) and Djimon Hounsou (Shola) who are the agents that founded the Kingsman spy agency. They bring some humor to the screen as well as some entertaining action scenes. Rhys Ifans plays Rasputin a real-life tyrant who has magical powers and is super evil, but his character was way over the top. I think the biggest issues of the film are that it lacks definition…is it a serious war story or a spy action film – it never seems to find a balance. Also, some scenes do drag on and is a little slow at times. Finally, the big reveal of the villain was obvious and not a surprise at all…very disappointing. However, I still feel like this movie was better than the sequel from 4 years ago. I am giving “The King’s Man” a 3.5/5 stars.
