Movie Review:

“The Last Voyage of the Demeter is directed by Andre Overdal it is loosely based on a chapter of “Bram Stokers Novel of Dracula” and is a chilling mediocre horror movie with some great acting of its 4 main leads, scary images that makes this film watchable. The best thing in this movie is Corey Hawkins who plays Clemens a doctor on the Demeter that gives a meaningful, honest performance that makes you care about him right from the start of the movie. I also loved Liam Cunningham as Captain Elliot who has an emotional performance as an aging captain that only has a ship and a grandson that he must protect gives me a reason to care about what happens to him. Aisling Franciosi plays a women stowaway Anna a mysterious character who has a lot of depth and she knows how to fight Dracula she also gives an amazing performance. David Dastmalchian steals the show as Wojchek the Captains first mate he is a loyal, charismatic, caring man who will do anything for his crew and gives a performance that is different from anything that David has played throughout his career that made it great. This movie does feel like Ridley Scotts “Alien” but with “Dracula” on a boat that made it a lot of fun to watch. Besides the four main characters I felt the other crew members to be expendable and I didn’t care about them at all they were there for Dracula to kill them. My biggest issue of the movie was the look of Dracula was weird, not scary and it looked too much CGI that made it laughable at times. The movie relied to much on typical jump scares that weren’t scary and predictable that made not intense and less terrifying. I loved the concept, acting and the production design was top notch but some of the execution was a bit lackluster for me I am giving “Th last Voyage of the Demeter” a 3/5 stars.
