The Little Things

Synopsis: Deputy Sheriff Joe "Deke" Deacon joins forces with Sgt. Jim Baxter to search for a serial killer who's terrorizing Los Angeles. As they track the culprit, Baxter is unaware that the investigation is dredging up echoes of Deke's past, uncovering disturbing secrets that could threaten more than his case.

Movie Review:

The Little Things” is directed by John Lee Hancock and is a crime thriller that tries to make it feel like a throwback to the dark 90’s film. Even though it has an amazing cast, sadly, this movie was a big disappointment. It suffers from an over complicated plot that feels dated and unoriginal. This film is not all terrible. I thought the opening scene was intense and it sets up the plot, the killer, and the investigation very well. Denzel Washington plays Deputy Sheriff Joe “Deke” Deacon, a tormented soul who has a dark past and will stop at nothing to find this killer. I thought Denzel Washington is the best part about this movie. His character has the most interesting story with his haunting past that is connected to the killings. He teams up with Sgt. Jim Baxter played by Rami Malek and the two actors have great on-screen chemistry. Unfortunately, Malek’s character lacks a personality and makes him unlikeable to the audience. Jared Leto plays Albert Sparma the lead suspect of the case who likes to play games with the two lead detectives. Jared Leto is amazing as the creepy character and he makes you question if he is the killer or not. Some of his scenes in the interrogation room were the best scenes in the movie. The biggest issues that I had with this film was the story is predictable and it tries too hard to imitate 90’s crime thrillers. I am giving “The little Things” a 2.5 out of 5 stars.
