Movie Review:

“The Northman” is directed by Robert Eggers, and it is his third feature film. This happens to be my favorite movie that he directed with fantastic acting and visually stunning cinematography which sets this film apart from his other feature films. Alexander Skarsgard plays Prince Amleth who was betrayed by his uncle and stole his birthright, so he becomes a Viking to avenge his father. His charisma and confidence make you like this character and his quest for vengeance makes sense. Also, this is an epic love story between Prince Amleth and the beautiful young slave Olga played by the talented Anya Taylor-Joy. They both have amazing chemistry with one another, and she plays a tough, strong, and independent character who has many dramatic scenes that are heartbreaking especially the ending. Nicole Kidman plays Queen Gudrun, and she is great as the intimidating mother of the Prince throughout the film. I think Claes Bang who plays Fjolnir the Brotherless (the uncle) is one of the best villains. He is ruthless and evil, and he is the standout of the film. Some of the supporting actors, like William Dafoe were wasted and only in one scene. The action is filled with brutal and bloody battles. And the move has an epic end battle between two warriors that was intense to watch. The only issue that I had with this movie was that there were too many dreams sequences that felt unnecessary to the plot. This movie is everything that I love from this type of film. It reminds me of “Gladiator”, “The Lion King”, and “Braveheart” – a classic story of revenge. I am giving “The Northman” 4.5/5 stars.
