The Nun II

Synopsis:

In 1956 France, a priest is violently murdered, and Sister Irene begins to investigate. She once again comes face-to-face with a powerful evil.

Movie Review:

“The Nun II” is directed by Michael Chaves, and it is the sequel to the 2018 movie with the continuation of the conjuring universe. I thought this sequel is a step up from the original with characters that you care about, creative scares and a fun third act, but it still suffers from a boring lead up that is slow and dull. The saving grace of this movie is Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene ‘the Nun’ who stopped the Demon before and does so again with her outstanding knowledge and quick thinking. Storm Reid is a nice addition playing Sister Debra a young nun that teams up with Irene to investigate the murders. Both characters share the same tragic backstory that is revealed. This movie takes place at an all-girl boarding school where characters are introduced like Sophie (Katelyn Rose Downey) and her mother Kate (Anne Popplewell) who spend most of their time running from creatures or walking in dark rooms. Jonas Bloquest reprises his role as Maurice a handy man at the boarding school and has a much bigger role this time around, but his storyline goes nowhere. The Demon Nun is creepy and scary and does have some intense moments that made me jump out of my seat. The film is well directed with great scares and an intense final showdown that was satisfying. “The Nun II” is a mediocre horror sequel that is a good improvement over the first movie. I am giving it a 2.5/5 stars.
