Movie Review:

"The Rip" is directed by Joe Carnahan and is a cop thriller action film inspired by real events that occurred in Miami, where a group of cops stumbles upon a stash of millions in cash. Starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, it certainly delivers with its thrilling and captivating plot, featuring clever twists and turns that keep you guessing who to trust, making it a classic cop thriller. Matt Damon portrays Lieutenant Dane Dumans, a Miami detective with a troubled past, delivering an intimate, emotional, and gripping performance. At times, he can be a tough character to trust, but he remains a good cop, making him both likable and humorous. Ben Affleck plays Detective Sgt. JD Byrne, another Miami cop and close friend of Dane. He gives an intense, suspenseful, and fantastic performance as the tough guy who might just be the smartest one around, making him one of my favorite characters in the film, completely stealing the spotlight. The chemistry between him and Matt Damon is incredible, making their partnership believable and showcasing a friendship that feels like it has lasted for years. I really enjoyed their camaraderie in this film. Steven Yeun plays Detective Mike Ro, the younger cop who delivers a solid and engaging performance. Sasha Calle portrays Desi, the young woman who finds herself entangled in this situation, giving a standout and surprising performance that truly impressed me. The film features some intense, loud shootouts that are action-packed, thrilling, and heart-stopping, making it a blast to watch. It also boasts a great supporting cast, including Scott Adkins, Teyana Taylor, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Kyle Chandler, who all deliver decent performances, although they don’t have much to do beyond delivering their lines and moving on to the next scene. By the end, the plot does become predictable and generic, reminiscent of other cop thrillers from the past. Despite some flaws in the storyline, this remains an entertaining, action-packed cop thriller with a fantastic cast. I’m giving "The Rip" a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
