The Strangers: Chapter 1

SynopsisAfter their car breaks down in an eerie small town, a young couple is forced to spend the night in a remote cabin. Panic ensues as they are terrorized by three masked strangers who strike with no mercy and seemingly no motive.

Movie Review:

"The Strangers: Chapter 1, directed by Renny Harlin, is a reboot of the franchise and the first installment of a planned trilogy. Unfortunately, it falls flat as a boring, predictable, and poorly written horror movie that is essentially a shot-for-shot remake of the 2008 original. The saving grace of the film is the performances of Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez, who bring some intensity to their roles and deliver a few decently unnerving scenes.

However, Maya (Madelaine Petsch) and Ryan (Froy Gutierrez) are burdened with some cringeworthy dialogue that often veers into cheesy territory. Their characters also make some incredibly dumb decisions that only serve to escalate their troubles with the masked intruders. Surprisingly, this actually makes you root for the crazy psychopaths in masks.

Overall, the film suffers from being unoriginal, cliché, and lazy, leaving me unenthusiastic about the prospect of sequels. "The Strangers: Chapter 1" is easily one of the worst films I've seen this year."

I am giving it a 1.5/5 stars.
