Movie Review:
"Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan: Ghost War" is the latest film that wraps up the rebooted series after three seasons featuring John Krasinski. This movie aims to deliver an exhilarating spy action experience filled with nonstop thrills, but unfortunately, it falls short with a storyline that feels dull and tedious, taking a while to pick up pace, making it a slog to get through. The second half does ramp up with action, shootouts, and explosions, making it more enjoyable than the first 30 minutes. John Krasinski reprises his role as the iconic analyst turned super spy, and he shines once again, embodying the smart, resourceful, and tough character that Jack Ryan is in the books, which are the highlights of the film. Both Michael Kelly and Wendell Pierce return as James Greer and Mike November, respectively, and they deliver solid performances, but their characters are underutilized, which is frustrating to watch. They attempted to create an intriguing tragic backstory for James Greer, but it came off as dull and predictable, reminiscent of countless spy films I've seen before. Sienna Miller portrays MIG Agent Emma Marlowe, and while she gives a decent performance, her character lacks depth and is quite boring. Max Beesley plays Liam Crown, a rogue agent turned terrorist linked to Greer's past, and while he's okay, he comes across as generic and one-dimensional, delivering a lackluster performance that makes him an uninteresting villain. The third act feels like a shootout lifted from a better spy movie, making it seem repetitive and unoriginal, reminiscent of the James Bond film "Skyfall." My biggest gripe with this movie is that it feels like an extended finale of a TV show that wrapped up years ago, which left it feeling mediocre for me. Despite some entertaining action sequences and a strong performance from John Krasinski, this film was a letdown. I'm giving "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan: Ghost War" a rating of 3 out of 5 stars.
