Uncharted

Synopsis: Treasure hunter Victor "Sully" Sullivan recruits street-smart Nathan Drake to help him recover a 500-year-old lost fortune amassed by explorer Ferdinand Magellan.

Movie Review:

“Uncharted” is directed by Ruben Fleischer, and it is based on the popular video game of the same name. I am a huge fan of the PlayStation games, and I was super excited for this movie. Even though this is not a perfect adaptation of the game, I enjoyed this movie. This film is tons of fun with exciting set pieces and action as well as a globe-trotting adventure that makes it feel like a classic “Indiana Jones” film. Tom Holland plays Nathan Drake a young treasure hunter seeking adventure and his character is likeable, charming, and witty. Mark Wahlberg plays Victor Sullivan, and he has a twisted father/son dynamic with Holland. They have great chemistry, and it is seen in the humorous scenes with each other. As much as I am a huge fan of Mark Wahlberg, I thought he didn’t feel like the video game character that inspired the role; he was a hit or miss at times. Sophia Taylor Ali plays a young Chloe Frazer who is a strong woman who can handle herself and she has a flirty chemistry with Tom Holland that worked well. Antonio Banderas plays the villain Santiago Moncada a rich businessman who is obsessed with the same treasure that Nate is looking for. I thought he was a disappointing villain. The character is a one-dimensional, generic villain I have seen time and time again. Tati Gabrielle plays Jo Braddock a mercenary who is the lethal muscle in this movie. The biggest problem with the movie is that the story was all over the place, and it felt like a predictable action-adventure movie that I have seen before. But this is one of the better video games adaptations to a movie and I can’t wait for the sequel. I am giving “Uncharted” a 3.5/5 stars.
