Synopsis: A misfit group of unwitting high school students stumble upon a cursed object, an ancient Aztec Death Whistle. They discover that blowing the whistle and the terrifying sound it emits will summon their future deaths to hunt them down.

Movie Review:

"Whistle" is directed by Corin Hardy, and it's an original horror flick that feels a lot like "The Final Destination" series. It has some awesome kills and interesting takes on death, emphasizing the importance of living life to the fullest every day, which made it somewhat enjoyable. The two lead performances are solid, but the film still comes off as generic, dull, and boring. Dafne Keen plays Chrys Willet, a young outcast with a tragic backstory, and she's definitely the standout character. She's compelling and interesting, and her backstory is the only one that made me care about her. Despite the poorly written script that sometimes makes the other characters feel one-dimensional, she shines in this role. Sophie Nelisse, who I really admire, also delivers a great performance as Ellie Gains, Chrys's love interest. Their relationship is fantastic, with great chemistry that made me root for them. For me, these two characters were the highlights of the movie. The supporting cast, including Sky Yang, Jhaleil Swaby, Alissa Skovby, Percy Hynes White, Michelle Fairley, and Nick Frost, all do a decent job, but their characters are pretty one-dimensional and dull, which was a major issue for me. Even though there are some clever scares and cool kills, the movie tends to get repetitive and tiresome, especially with the same things happening to these clueless teens. Plus, the characters make some of the dumbest decisions that had me rolling my eyes. The third act is okay, with an ending that tries for a happy conclusion but ultimately feels unsatisfying and disappointing. Overall, "Whistle" is a mixed bag. The two lead performances from these up-and-coming actresses I love can't save this tedious, boring, and dull horror film. I'm giving it a 2.5 out of 5 stars.
