Your Place or Mine

Synopsis:

Debbie and Peter are best friends and total opposites. She craves routine with her son in Los Angeles, but he thrives on change in New York. When they swap houses and lives for a week, they discover what they think they want might not be what they really need.

Movie Review:

“Your Place or Mine” is directed by Aline Brosh Mckenna, and it is a new original romantic comedy with two charismatic stars in Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher. Unfortunately, this anticipated movie turned out to be a predictable, poorly written, boring rom com that didn’t keep my attention. Ashton Kutcher plays Peter a likable, charming guy that has relationship issues because he has been in love with his best friend Debbie for 20 years. Peter’s relationship with her son Jack played by Wesley Kimmel is the best part of the movie. The surrogate father/son relationship is heartwarming to watch. Reese Witherspoon plays Debbie an overprotective mother who thrives on routine and doesn’t like to take risks. The supporting cast of Steve Zahn and Tig Notaro were funny and added some humor to an otherwise mindless storyline. There were some issues that I had with this film. My biggest problem was the lack of chemistry with the two main stars – Witherspoon and Kutcher had no spark at all on screen. The script was poorly written. It felt like a bunch of cliches that I have seen before. I am giving “Your Place or Mine” 2/5 stars.
